Battle of Britain Service

September 18th, 2016

On Sunday 18th September, 7 Cadets and 1 Member of Staff from 1360 (Stapleford and Sandiacre) Squadron attended the 76th Battle of Britain Service held annually at St. Mary’s church in the heart of Nottingham.

On arrival, the Wing Banner Party, commanded by CWO Oliver Kirk, and the Squadron Banner, held by FS Matthew Osbiston prepared themselves ready for the church service in which the banners are presented and laid upon the alter. After listening to proceedings, the cadets filed in to the church.

Once the service was in full swing, the congregation heard various stories and speeches from the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir John Peace, as well as from the Vicar. Various hymns were also sung by both the cadets and the choir before the service concluded.

After, everyone exited the church and lined the streets ready for the review of the Lord lieutenant as well as the Mayor of Nottingham, in which it was commented about the high standard of turnout.

Thank you to everyone that attended the service, and a big thank you to the RAFA for organising the event. We look forward to seeing you next year!
